TRENTON, N.J. - New Jersey commuters may have woken up to less snow than they expected, but make no mistake about it, this first winter storm of the season was not to be ignored.

That is why many Garden State school districts either closed or had early dismissal. It is also why Gov. Phil Murphy sent his employees home early.

Meanwhile, New Jersey has been in readiness mode since Sunday.

Independent snow plow contractors waited hours at numerous rest stops along the New Jersey turnpike Monday, in hopes of getting the call to handle the snowfall.

Black ice is also an issue on the road for those heading back from work.
