New Jersey Man's 'Blessing Bags' Help Homeless During Holiday Season
FREEHOLD, N.J. - Kevin Garrison is busy prepping for three community dinners for those in-need this Thanksgiving.
Garrison is the founder of the non-profit organization Blessing Bag Brigade. It was founded in 2016.
When the operation first started, Garrison was handing out nearly 400 'blessing bags' a month.
With the help of the community, Garrison is able to donate more than 2,000 'blessing bags' each month to the homeless population in Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean Counties and in New York City.
"I found four guys at the sink using my 'blessing bags,'" Garrison said. "They were brushing their teeth. They were shaving. I was taken by surprise; I had no idea it would be that impactful that someone would take it right away, and use it immediately."
Blessing Bags partners with schools in New Jersey and their special needs programs to help enhance their life skills. The supplies are delivered to the schools, where the students then assemble the bags.
"If I can give them that glimmer of hope, for just one moment, I know I've done something right," Garrison said.
Blessing Bags is always looking for the following items:
-Travel Size Toothpaste and Toiletries
